The Voice of Healing Revival was a major move of the Holy Spirit between 1947 to 1957. It began when the Angel of the Lord appeared to humble Baptist pastor William Branham in May 1946:
“I have called you to take divine healing to the nations… If you are sincere when you pray, and can get the people to believe you, nothing will stand before your prayer, not even cancer.”
Branham was given two signs that would help people believe: the first was a manifestation of “bumps” on his hand which would help him diagnose the disease, and later, “if you remain faithful“, he was told he would “know by vision” what the person’s problem was.
Branham’s initial meetings exploded, as huge crowds travelled to attend, and many claimed to have been miraculously healed. In early 1948, Pentecostal minister Gordon Lindsay started The Voice of Healing Magazine to chronicle the ministry of Brother Branham. By the end of that year, the Magazine was reporting on a number of other healing ministries and the miraculous events taking place across the USA.
How the Revival Began...
The Progress of the Revival
Healing Evangelists appeared from everywhere, with over 100 ministers holding itinerant crusades across America and Internationally. Ministers such as Oral Roberts, Jack Coe and A. A. Allen became prominent during this period, and many other ministries gained recognition. Paul Cain was the youngest of the ministers – only 19 years old in 1948. Although the movement “started pure”, a competitive spirit emerged between many of the evangelists, and others fell into sin (girls, gold or glory). Tents holding up to 22,000 people were employed, as the miracles drew enormous crowds that even the secular media could not ignore.
The mainstream churches – both Pentecostal and Traditional denominations – began to oppose the work of the Holy Spirit during this outpouring, as they tried to control the messages preached, venues used and particularly the money flowing in. In January, 1956, William Branham prophesied the end of the Revival, saying America had “rejected the Lord”, and the Churches had refused to come into unity. The general anointing for healing which allowed many to operate in the supernatural shut off from that time, and few evangelists had built their personal spiritual walk to a point where they could carry the anointing themselves into the 1960s. Within a few years, the era of the travelling healing evangelists had all but ended.
Dramatic Miracles
The MOST dramatic miracle testimony from the Revival. Ronnie Coyne was 9 years old when his eye was surgically removed. God enabled him to “see” through the empty socket until he died in the 90s. Details on the VoH Miracle Testimonies page.
Huge Crowds
Crowds of many thousands flocked to the meetings. By the mid-1950s, crowds of 20-30,000 people attending crusades were common.
